About Emily
Hi, I’m Emily, a qualified English teacher with a genuine passion for helping students discover what they are capable of.
I have always loved English, particularly the way literature allows us to explore different perspectives, ideas and experiences. However, I also understand that English does not always come naturally to every student. Sometimes a lack of confidence can make a student believe they are simply “not good at English” or that it’s “boring” and “all waffle” when what they really need is the right explanation, encouragement and someone who believes in them.
That is one of the biggest reasons I chose to teach.
I love seeing the moment when something finally clicks for a student. Whether that is understanding how to analyse a quotation, writing an essay they are genuinely proud of, moving up a grade, or simply gaining the confidence to put their hand up and say, “I know how to do this now.”
As a qualified teacher, I have experience supporting students with a wide range of abilities and learning needs. I enjoy challenging high achieving students to reach the very top grades just as much as I enjoy helping students who have previously struggled to build their foundations and confidence.
For me, tutoring is about much more than improving grades. It is about helping students believe that they are capable of improving.
I want every student I teach to feel listened to, supported and proud of their progress. My lessons are personal, encouraging and completely centred around the individual student.
If I can help a student go from “I can’t do this” to “I can”, then I have done my job.

Whether your child is aiming for a Grade 5 or a Grade 9, my lessons are built around helping them reach their potential.
I believe great tutoring is not about putting every student through the same programme. It is about understanding where they are now, where they want to be, and exactly what we need to do to get there.
As a qualified English teacher, I have experience working with students across the full range of abilities. This includes students who lack confidence and are struggling to secure a Grade 4 or 5, as well as high achieving students who want to push towards Grades 7, 8 and 9. I have worked with other moderators, so my explicit knowledge of the mark schemes allow for ‘tricks of the trade’ to support all levels.
My approach is highly personalised. I identify gaps in knowledge, develop exam technique, challenge students appropriately and adapt lessons as they progress.
For students who are struggling, this might mean breaking complex skills down into manageable steps and rebuilding their confidence. For higher achievers, it means going beyond the basics and developing the sophistication, analysis and precision needed for the very highest grades.
I do not believe in simply teaching students how to pass. I want them to understand how to succeed.
Students work on:
English Language and Literature skills
Exam technique and question strategy
️ Essay structure, analysis and written expression
Developing deeper and more sophisticated interpretations
Identifying and closing individual gaps
Moving from their current grade towards their target grade
Building the confidence to work independently
My aim is for every student to see genuine progress. That might mean going from a Grade 3 to a secure Grade 5, pushing a Grade 5 student towards a 7, or helping a high achiever turn a Grade 7 into an 8 or 9.
Every student has a different starting point. My job is to help them make the biggest possible progress from theirs.
