About Amin

I am a PhD Mathematics graduate from the University of British Columbia with 13 years of teaching experience across school, college, and university-level mathematics, as well as competition mathematics.

I have always had a strong interest in mathematics, especially in problem-solving and logical thinking. My early experience with mathematics competitions helped me understand how to approach problems step by step, which influences how I teach today.

I enjoy helping students understand mathematics in a clear and structured way, and I find it very rewarding to see students gain confidence as their understanding improves.

I work with students with a wide range of goals, from those who need foundational support to those aiming for advanced mathematics and competitive problem solving.

My focus is always on patience, clarity, and helping each student build long-term confidence in mathematics.

About the lesson

I am an experienced PhD Mathematics tutor with 13 years of teaching experience across school, college, and university levels, as well as competition mathematics helping students at all levels, from those who need foundational support to advanced students in competition mathematics. I teach school mathematics, AP and IB courses, university mathematics, and Olympiad-level problem solving.

1. Foundational Mathematics (School Support)

I help students who need support with school mathematics or want to improve their grades and understanding. I have worked with many students who were struggling significantly and needed structured support to pass their courses. My approach focuses on rebuilding foundational understanding step by step, identifying gaps, and developing confidence through guided practice. I aim to make mathematics more accessible and manageable, especially for students who feel behind or overwhelmed.

2. Competition Mathematics (AP, IB, Olympiads)

I prepare students for AP, IB, and mathematics competitions including AMC, AIME, Euclid, COMC, CMO, USJMO, USAMO, and IMO. I teach Olympiad mathematics covering algebra, geometry, number theory, and combinatorics, with emphasis on problem-solving strategies and deep conceptual thinking. My training strategy is based on selecting a carefully optimized set of problems tailored to the student’s level, goals, and available time, ensuring efficient preparation while covering the most important ideas and techniques used in contest mathematics.

3. University Mathematics

I teach a wide range of undergraduate mathematics courses, including but not limited to calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, probability, and proof-based mathematics. My focus is on clarity, structure, and building strong conceptual understanding for success in university courses and exams.

Lessons are adapted to each student’s goals, level, and pace. Sessions are available both online and in person with flexible scheduling.
