About Carmen

Hello, and thank you for clicking on my page to view my profile! My name is Carmen and I am currently a final-year undergraduate at the University of Melbourne who is pursuing Psychology, with a current WAM of 87 (First-Class Honors). I am a student tutor currently in my final year at the University of Melbourne, majoring in Psychology with a strong background in Mathematics (A* in IGCSE Mathematics, A* in IGCSE Additional Mathematics, A* and Top in Cohort for GCE A-Level Mathematics) and English (A* in IGCSE English Literature, A* in IGCSE English Language). I have also been awarded the Dean’s Honors List for 2 consecutive years, placing me in the top 3% of the entire cohort in the Faculty of Arts. I have always been passionate in the field of Education and making a change in the lives of others, especially youths. Hence, I kickstarted my tutoring journey in 2018, starting off with tutoring my peers in IGCSE Mathematics and Additional Mathematics. I later branched off to teaching primary-level children English, Mathematics, and Piano (including the basics and up to Grade 5) which I greatly enjoyed. My hobbies include competitive swimming, volunteering, socializing, reading, playing the piano, and learning foreign languages. I am fluent in English, Mandarin, Malay, and have limited working proficiency in Japanese and French.

About the lesson

My goal as a tutor is to develop high-quality personalised lesson plans based on your personal goals and deliver them in an engaging, challenging, and fun way to YOU.

My previous teaching experience and educational background in Psychology has also taught me that each child is unique in terms of their pace and style of learning. Hence, my teaching methodology draws from different styles to suit and personalise to each individual, such as visual, audio experiential learning, etc.

Thus, as a potential student, you can expect to:
1) Develop a fundamental knowledge and appreciation of Mathematics, and apply what you have learned to a range of questions (e.g. worded questions, straightforward questions).
2) Be challenged. I am a firm believer in pushing my students to venture outside of their comfort zone, and to not only develop their strengths, but to also work on their weaknesses.
3) Receive my utmost support and guidance regarding your personal journey of working towards your academic-related goals.
4) Have fun in a comfortable, engaging, and safe space!

I currently offer a minimum of 1-hour classes, specialising in primary-level Mathematics. However, I am more than happy to teach high-school or VCE-level Mathematics, if requested. Lessons can be held either online, at the student's home, my home, or within the Melbourne CBD. Rates can be discussed.
