About Luke

I graduated from the University of Essex in 2019 with a first-class honours in Adult Nursing. My career began in Acute respiratory nursing where I gained my core skills. I worked the COVID pandemic on respiratory as a senior nurse whilst teaching students and newly qualified nurses.

I branched off to surgical and acute general medicine after this as a bank nurse to widen my scope and skills in all areas. I took an opportunity after this to work within the hospital as a pathway nurse, the role required medically fit patients to be sent home safely with the appropriate support at home to avoid them being admitted to wards unnecessarily and to prevent the risk of infection by doing so.

Now I work in community care as a senior triage nurse in acute and emergency medicine. The role is admission avoidance focussed where you decide who is best staying out of hospital due to their clinical picture and need. We utilise other community teams and our own nursing teams to successfully assess, treat and create ongoing community pathways to support and keep patients in their homes - avoiding unnecessary admission and infections for vulnerable people.

I am planning on studying life coaching to build further on my skills. I choose this subject because I would like to provide a holistic side to my care in future practice. Alongside this I am also completing my Management Development Programme alongside my current role.

I teach evidence-based practice and key nursing principles to students to enable them to understand the theory behind practice.

I teach the importance of Multidisciplinary team, autonomy and how this applies to a person centred approach to care to patients. The importance of identification and onward planning to ensure patient outcomes are supported are also important within the modern nursing role. I will be able to give insight through experience in how effective communication and reflection can aid your development. I am passionate in teaching effective reflective practice so that students can develop and learn from mistakes, experiences and situations that hinder your growth in your career - nursing is not an easy role due to the external and internal skills you need to possess to ensure people are safe and harm free as far as possible. I will be able to teach this.

I will be able to teach community and primary care pathways and health education with a scope to focus on public health - inequalities in care, disadvantaged communities and focus groups. I am passionate to teach strategy and vision within the community and how early identification, planning, implementation can improve outcomes in the long term for patients, promoting longevity.

With my experience in acute respiratory and medicine, I can teach acute conditions as well and long term conditions which contribute to making situations more difficult to manage. I am passionate to teach theory behind practice in these areas of nursing because identification of the acutely unwell patient promotes effective practice, safety of the patient and better outcomes for patients. When an acute situation occurs. It can be very overwhelming dealing with these sorts of scenarios.

I can guide students how to manage difficult situations especially within palliative care - something that can go very well or very wrong depending on the environment and person centred approach. Throughout my carer I have developed skills to ensure I provide person centred approaches when I provide palliative support to patients. The importance of getting it right and listening to patients should be the focus in this area. This is a key part of nursing practice, supporting your patients to make sound and reasonable decisions when difficult situations arise.

I have evolved with the NHS over the last 13 years and strive to guide students to graduate safely and effectively in their future roles as Nurses.

I apply an individualised approach to all students and tailor lessons to the needs of the student. I teach students at all levels of their nursing career and I am passionate to share excellence within nursing practice. I will try my best to support your learning needs through evidence, scenario and problem-solving techniques. I use many different methods within my teaching so each person benefits from a personalised approach to their learning.

I also support interview preparation and guidance for students and nurses in progression to their senior roles in the profession.

I kindly ask for your expectations if you're interested to ensure you get the best learning experience from me.
