About Cabrini Lydia
Hi I am Lydia, a Bioengineering undergraduate at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and a private tutor with 3 years of teaching experience across home tuition and tuition centers in Singapore.
My passion for teaching comes from the teachers who shaped me. In secondary school and JC, I was lucky to have Biology teachers who taught through mind-maps and active recall rather than rote memorization. They turned a subject that most of my classmates feared into something I genuinely looked forward to. I still remember how a single well-drawn mind-map could pull an entire chapter together, and how being made to recall information out loud forced me to actually understand it instead of just reading it over and over. Those techniques changed the way I learned, and they are the same ones I bring into every lesson I teach today.
I have taught at two tuition centers in Singapore, working with students from Primary 1 to Secondary 4, and I have been conducting 1-to-1 home tuition alongside that for over a year. This range has given me a strong grasp of the current MOE syllabus and the ability to adjust my teaching to very different students and learning paces.
What I am most proud of is not the grade jumps, but the moments when a student starts to actually enjoy a subject they used to dread. I have had students who came in hating Math suddenly asking for harder practice questions, and students who thought Biology was "too much to memorize" start drawing their own mind-maps without being told to. Once a student finds that spark, the grades follow on their own.
I specialize in Math and Science for Primary students, and E-Math, A-Math, Biology and Chemistry for Secondary students. I am approachable and patient, but also firm and consistent. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, even the ones they think are silly, while still being held to a standard that pushes them forward.
If you are looking for a tutor who genuinely cares about your child's growth and wants them to love learning, not just survive it, I would be glad to help.

My lessons are built around two things: active recall and mind-mapping. Instead of passively going through notes, I get students to retrieve information themselves through quick quizzes, verbal questioning and mini-tests at the end of each topic. This way, gaps surface early and concepts actually stick long-term rather than just for the next test.
I tailor every lesson to the student in front of me. Some need slower conceptual breakdowns, others need exam drilling, and many need both at different points. I plan each session based on where the student currently is, what their school is covering, and what's coming up in their next assessment. I also create my own summary notes and mind maps where the school material is too dense or unclear.
A typical lesson runs 1.5 to 2 hours, which gives enough time to recap the previous week, teach new content, work through practice questions, and end with a short recall check. For Primary students, 1 to 1.5 hours usually works better to match their attention span.
My experience and qualifications:
Currently pursuing Bioengineering at NTU after completing A-Levels
Silver medalist, Singapore Biology Olympiad 2020
Straight As in E-Math and A-Math throughout secondary school
Over a year of 1-to-1 home tuition experience
Previously taught at tuition centres, handling Primary to Secondary 4 students
Well-versed with the current MOE syllabus
My lessons are for:
Primary 1 to Primary 6 students for Math and Science
Secondary 1 to Secondary 4 students for E-Math, A-Math, Biology and Chemistry
Students who want to genuinely understand the subject, not just memorise for exams
I am approachable, patient, and use humour to keep things light so students stay engaged. I am also firm when it comes to discipline and follow-through because I want every student to walk away with real improvement, not just a comfortable lesson.
