About Sophie
Hello! I'm Sophie - thanks so much for checking out my tutoring page. I have a MSc Molecular Biology and Biochemistry degree from SFU and a BSc in Biological Sciences. I have over 8 years of experience teaching and tutoring at the high school and undergrad/graduate levels.
I customize every single lesson for each session and never take a cookie cutter approach. I am energetic and positive and check in often during our sessions to ensure my approach is working. My sessions, while professional, are not overly formal. I like to make my students feel comfortable and safe enough to ask any question - after all, that is my job! I love making my students laugh and you'll come out of the lesson feeling refreshed, positive and much more confident in your course material.

I start by assessing your understanding of the topic we are working on, and will present some key concepts for learning in addition with some examples of varying difficulty. Following that, we'll do some examples together, where I might help with the first 1-2 examples, then ask you to take me through your own thinking for the subsequent examples as we work together. I always wrap up with a quick summary of what we did today, and my plans for the next session as well. Prior to following sessions, I typically message my students to let them know what I have planned for the lesson, and ask if they have anything more pressing they would like me to go over instead.
I tutor: middle school sciences, high school sciences (biology, chemistry, physics), and undergraduate biology / genetics/ physiology / developmental biology. Please reach out to inquire!
