About Dustin

Hello! My name is Dustin, and I have a passion for learning and helping others realize their potential. Throughout school and during my engineering career, tutoring and mentoring others have gone hand-in-hand with my own growth. I strongly believe in giving back when you can, and that is why I am excited to be here.

While pursuing my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (2013), I worked for three years in a tutoring center supporting students ages 17–50 in arithmetic through Calculus III, as well as pre- and calculus-based physics. I also provided one-on-one tutoring for a high school student in AP Calculus BC and a college student taking Calculus I & II.

More recently, I have continued tutoring a wide range of students. In 2025, I supported a high school AP Physics student and a college student rebuilding algebra skills as she returns to school to pursue a new degree, using IXL to reinforce fundamentals and track progress. In 2026, I have tutored two 6th grade students, one 4th grade student, and a college student in algebra-based physics. I also have experience working with students with ADHD and autism, and I adapt pacing and communication to meet each learner’s needs.

As a nuclear test engineer (2013–2023), I mentored engineers-in-training preparing for milestone oral examinations and provided guidance on technical topics including fluid systems, heat transfer, and system design.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach has evolved over time, but my core principles remain the same. Learning can feel vulnerable, so I prioritize listening carefully and creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. I approach challenges with patience and humility, and I communicate honestly if a problem requires additional thought or research.

I aim to meet each student where they are, whether that means strengthening foundational algebra skills, building confidence in problem-solving, or working through advanced math and physics concepts. When helpful, I incorporate structured tools such as IXL to reinforce fundamentals and help students see measurable progress.

Whenever possible, I encourage the student to take the lead in solving problems so they develop independence and confidence. My goal is not only to help students succeed in their current course, but to equip them with skills and self-assurance that will support them long after our lessons end.
