About Edward
Thank you for considering me as your tutor. I understand that I am new to Superprof and do not yet have a long history of reviews on this platform, so I am happy to provide more information about my qualifications.
I hold both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Portland State University. I completed advanced mathematics through the 500 level, earning mostly A grades. I am also a UDL-certified tutor and previously worked as a GED tutor and math teacher for Portland Community College and Blue Mountain Community College.
In addition to my academic background, I have decades of professional engineering experience involving mechanical design, manufacturing, automation, precision equipment and technical troubleshooting. For example, I worked on the design of a machine used to create microprocessors; a machine that can print the Bible on a postage stamp! I am now moving into retirement and would like to use that knowledge to help the next generation of students and engineers.
If helpful, I can provide redacted documentation of my degrees, coursework and tutoring certification. We can also have a brief introductory conversation through Superprof to discuss your course, current topic and goals. I will tell you honestly whether the subject is within my expertise before you hire me.
My purpose is to teach students how to understand and solve problems independently. I do not take tests or complete graded work on a student’s behalf.

I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and bring more than 35 years of experience solving real-world technical problems. As I move toward retirement from engineering, I want to pass that knowledge on to the next generation.
I have completed advanced university mathematics coursework, earned mostly A grades, and previously tutored and taught math classes for GED students for Portland Community College. I am also certified in Universal Design for Learning, which helps me adapt lessons to different learning styles.
I tutor college students and adult learners age 18 and older in algebra, trigonometry, calculus, differential equations, physics, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and other mechanical-engineering subjects. I explain difficult concepts in clear, practical language and work through problems step by step. My goal is not simply to show you an answer, but to help you understand the principles well enough to solve the next problem independently.
My lessons are patient, respectful, and tailored to your present level, whether you need to rebuild the fundamentals, prepare for an exam, or master a challenging course.
