About Katrina

I am a passionate educator with a strong academic background in mathematics and machine learning. I hold an Honours Specialization in Applied Mathematics and a Master’s in Data Science and Machine Learning, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Beyond my studies, I serve on the advisory board at Eastern University for their School of Mathematics and Computational Sciences, helping shape the future of math education.

Currently, I am the Machine Learning Math Lead at Cohere for AI, an open science research lab where I teach the mathematical foundations behind cutting-edge AI algorithms.

With over 15 years of tutoring experience, I have helped students of all levels—from high school to university—develop confidence in math. My passion for teaching extends beyond the classroom; as a karate coach, I have honed my ability to break down complex concepts into clear, understandable steps. I believe that with the right guidance, anyone can master math, and I am committed to making that journey as engaging and rewarding as possible.

About the lesson

With over 15 years of tutoring experience, I have helped students from Grade 9 to third-year university excel in mathematics. My approach focuses on building a deep understanding of concepts rather than relying on memorization.

My Teaching Methodology:
Each lesson begins with a clear explanation of key mathematical theories, followed by step-by-step examples to show how they apply to real problems. I then guide students on how to generalize these concepts, ensuring they have the confidence to tackle new and challenging questions on their own.

What Sets Me Apart:
I adapt my teaching style on the spot to match each student’s unique learning needs. I have successfully tutored students with learning disabilities, autism, and high anxiety around math, as well as gifted students looking to push their understanding further. My goal is for every student to leave with a strong foundation that serves as a building block for future success.
