About Yan

I’m currently completing my Master’s in Financial Statistics at the London School of Economics (LSE), where I also earned my undergraduate degree in Financial Mathematics and Statistics. Over the past four years, I’ve tutored more than 20 students through GoStudent and TeamUp, teaching both online and in person. Having worked with a wide range of learners — from high-achievers aiming for top grades to students rebuilding confidence — I’ve developed a patient, encouraging approach that helps every student feel supported. I focus on building both mathematical ability and self-belief, so that each student leaves my lessons not only more skilled but also more confident in their own potential. As an LSE postgraduate, I combine strong academic training with a genuine enthusiasm for helping others succeed. My goal is simple: to make maths engaging, accessible, and empowering for every student I teach. I was born and raised in Yorkshire, so I am native and fluent in English. I can also speak Mandarin Chinese.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is structured, interactive, and focused on building deep understanding and confidence. I tailor each session to the student’s goals, using clear explanations, worked examples, and plenty of guided practice to make even complex maths topics approachable. Lessons are typically 1 hour long and begin with a brief recap, followed by step-by-step teaching of new material and targeted exam-style questions. I encourage students to explain their reasoning, helping them strengthen problem-solving skills and retain knowledge effectively. With over four years of experience tutoring more than 20 students through GoStudent and TeamUp, I specialise in GCSE and A-Level Maths across all major exam boards, helping students achieve top results and genuine confidence in the subject. I have taught students from a range of ages, from 8 to 18.
