About Emma

Hi, I’m Emma! I’m an experienced KS2 teacher with 10 years of classroom experience, including Year 6. I particularly enjoy working with pupils 1:1, where I can get to know how they learn and tailor my teaching to what they need.

I believe that struggling with something doesn’t mean you can’t do it. Sometimes a concept simply needs to be explained in a different way, broken down into manageable steps, or revisited without pressure. I’m patient, encouraging and calm, and I want pupils to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and having another go.

I chose to teach and tutor because I love the opportunity to work closely with individual pupils and see their confidence grow alongside their understanding. Whether a pupil needs to fill gaps, consolidate what they already know or stretch themselves further, I aim to help them become increasingly confident and independent learners.

I offer daytime tuition and particularly welcome enquiries from home-educated and flexi-schooled pupils, as well as pupils who would benefit from additional support outside the classroom.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to each pupil rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. I begin by finding out what they already understand and identifying any gaps or misconceptions, before building from there.

Depending on the pupil and the topic, we might break a concept down into smaller steps, use different representations or methods, revisit prior learning, practise together and then gradually move towards working independently. I make sure there is plenty of opportunity to practise, but also encourage pupils to explain their thinking so that they understand the ‘why’, rather than simply memorising a method.

For pupils who have found maths difficult or lost confidence, I place particular emphasis on making lessons feel manageable and achievable. For pupils who are already secure, I can provide challenge and opportunities to deepen their understanding.
