About Thomas
Hey, I’m Tom, a professional guitarist and tutor with a first-class degree in Music (Jazz) from Leeds Conservatoire. I’m passionate about helping students of all ages and abilities discover a love for music – whether that’s strumming along to your favourite songs, preparing for an audition or performance, or exploring advanced improvisation. Alongside teaching, I’m an active performer. I lead, play, compose, and arrange for my own jazz and country projects, work in musical theatre productions, and record as a session musician for original music. This balance of professional experience and teaching means I can offer lessons that are as creative as they are practical, giving you the tools to enjoy playing and developing your musical voice while also developing solid musicianship! I pride myself on being a positive, encouraging, and adaptable teacher. My aim is to make lessons enjoyable, engaging, and tailored to your interests so that you always leave with something new to explore on your instrument. Whether you’re a complete beginner, a casual hobbyist, or someone looking to push their skills and work on advanced concepts, I’d love to help you on your musical journey!

Teaching Approach & Methodology:
• I tailor each lesson to the student’s individual goals. Whether you’re learning your first chords, preparing for a performance, or diving deeper into improvisation in your chosen style, I want to make the process fun!
• My approach combines playing, ear training, transcription, and theory, as guided by your learning style and interests.
• I aim to make lessons fun and adventurous while still structured so that your practice time translates directly into better playing. To support this, I provide custom-made resources and handouts that you can use to develop your skills between sessions and take the lesson content forward yourself.
Lesson Length:
• Standard lessons are 60 minutes, though I also offer 30-minute sessions for those who prefer a more concise format.
• Lessons take place online via Zoom, making them accessible wherever you are!
Qualifications & Experience:
• First-class BA (Hons) in Music (Jazz) from Leeds Conservatoire. • Experience teaching guitar at college level in one-to-one sessions and workshops.
• Active professional musician performing and leading in jazz and country projects alongside musical theatre and session work.
