About Sebastian

I am an engaging, personable and passionate high school maths teacher. Before high school teaching, I spent 6 years at the University of New South Wales studying mathematics and have spent the last 5 years teaching tutorials for first year university students, including 3 years at University of Melbourne. I possess a love and deep understanding of mathematics, and truly enjoy sharing this love with students by breaking down complex ideas to show the underlying beauty.

I want to help students gain a deep understanding of mathematics.
I am happy to tutor:
- 7-10 maths,

- 11 and 12 methods and specialist,

- first year calculus, algebra and discrete mathematics.

About the lesson

Qualifications:

- Highschool teaching: I have taught all junior years 7-10 as well as 11 specialist and 12 methods.

- University tutoring: Tutored first year calculus, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics at UNSW, Monash and UniMelb for over 6 years.

- Highschool: I achieved 95+ ATAR.

- Bachelor of Advanced Mathematics (UNSW): Pure math major with high distinction average (85+%).

- Honours: First class honours with published paper.

- Master's Degree: Master's of teaching from UniMelb.

Teaching Approach:

My approach to tutoring is centered around helping students truly understand mathematical concepts and their applications, rather than just memorizing procedures. I believe that rote learning limits a student's grasp of mathematics, so I focus on fostering a deep understanding of the subject. I strive to create a supportive and engaging environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and explore their mathematical abilities. My goal is to build confidence and make learning math a positive and enjoyable experience.

Subjects I Tutor:

- Junior Mathematics: 7-10 mathematics

- Senior Mathematics: 11-12 Methods and Specialist

- University: First year calculus, algebra and discrete mathematics.

Locations:

I teach in Richmond and live in Collingwood. I am happy to tutor at your place or a local library, if possible, otherwise online works well.
