About Helen

I read music at Cambridge University and continued my postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London. I have since qualified as a teacher and have worked as a Head of Music in leading local preparatory schools. I am a mother of three children - all musical in different ways - and so I have a thorough appreciation of the joys and challenges (!) of supporting musical development at home. I also have a thorough knowledge of the various musical opportunities on offer for children living in the local area.

About the lesson

I am pleased to offer lessons to pupils of all ages and abilities. I have over 20 years of teaching experience, including 15 as Head of Music in local Preparatory Schools. I am passionate about the first stages of violin teaching and know how important it is to have excellent and supportive teaching from the very outset. I am also very confident when working with more advanced students and several of my previous pupils have successfully achieved Grade 8 with Distinction as well as membership of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and Music Scholarships to leading private secondary schools. I can offer piano lessons up to Grade 5 and can also prepare children for Grade 5 Theory. I am also happy to help pupils (and their parents!) to navigate the process of Music Scholarship applications. I have an excellent rapport with my pupils and really enjoy watching them develop as musicians.
