About Andree

I draw from my long-term experience of 27 years in teaching French Immersion and from my Master's degree in teaching French as a Second Language. I have been tutoring for almost 8 years with Vernon Immigrant Services, helping many adult students from different cultures. I currently have 2 students, one in ESL and one in French.

About the lesson

Hi, I am Andrée. I love tutoring and teaching. I structure my lessons according to your specific needs and level. My goal is to make you speak as much as possible. By empowering you to build the necessary vocabulary and practice the right pronunciation, I will help you to be able to sustain a conversation for what you need and for your specific goals.

Perfect! Andrée is a very approachable and patient tutor. Speaking your second language can be intimidating but Andrée makes her students feel confident and comfortable. She goes the extra mile and always has ideas about additional reading etc.
I definitely progressed in my spoken French competency and recommend her for students who want a friendly and non-judgmental conversational partner.

Daniel is making a good effort to improve his writing skills in French by composing small essay on subjects he likes. I correct them after he sent them to me by email, then we chat about it on Zoom.

Andree is a creative teacher- she often uses a book of little stories written by imaginative French elementary students in Quebec, which is a joy to read and listen to. She also teaches common daily French sayings and expressions that one wouldn't necessarily learn from a textbook.
Her method of teaching is student-centred - she listens well to what the student's needs are and focuses on these throughout the classes. For me, personally, the focus is on conversation skills, as that is where my own French learning has fallen short in the past.
Her classes are well structured, and this can be modified at any time according to the student's needs and desires.
Andree is a fun-loving person by nature and this makes her classes enjoyable as well as educational.
After only a month of French language tutoring I have already seen improvement in my conversational skills.

Robyn was a very diligent student and was keen to do her homework. She always came prepared with lots of questions. She responded avidly with all my suggestions and was a quick learner. We both felt that she was much more prepared for her trip in France. It was a real pleasure to teach her. Way to go Robyn! I know Andree through Vernon Immigrant Services as i am learning English as my Senod language with her. I relate well with her because her sthle is very kind and forgiving. She corrects my mistakes with humor and we havecfun. We meet at the library and after reading funny books , we use them for comprehension, for enhancing vocabulary and touching grammar in the same time. As a Korean, certain sounds are difficult for me and I practice with Andree. I revommend Andree because she is a good teacher and you will learn well with her. She is trustworthy being always on tme and prepared for every meeting

When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
I always been interested in learning new languages, as I love to discover different cultures and I love traveling meeting people and communicating in their language.
What makes you passionate about your subject?
My 30 years of experience as a teacher of second language allowed me to witness wonderful progress in my students, from Kindergarten to Grade 12, and more recently with tutoring adults. I love to see the mutual pleasure we get of conversing together. Observing my students experiencing better comprehension and fluency in their verbal/written expression is very satisfying and gratifying for me. It is such a great reward of mutual efforts.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
I have a good intuition to find out what are the gaps and to offer creative ways to enhance my students' confidence in expressing themselves in the new language of their choice. I am always very well prepared and spend the time to create a fun, relaxed and productive lesson.
Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
I have witnessed many great teachers in action in my career and I attended numerous workshops of how to teach a second language, either the Universities and at the school district where I taught.
What are your keys to success?
I am passionate about facilitating the learning process and I take interest in the life of my students. I love to develop a personal relationship with them, which allows meaningful conversations beyond the learning of the language itself. It fosters more interest, more intrinsic motivation and a desire to pursue the effort to study and practice.
