About Claudia

• I have had previous experience tutoring English literature and language to around 45 students in KS3 and GCSE at a secondary school in the northeast of England. I tutored in small groups and 1:1 settings, tailoring my approach to the abilities and strengths of each student.

• I have been a weekly volunteer as a classroom assistant in primary schools, assisting around 25 students on a one-on-one basis and helping them develop their literacy skills.

• I have designed and delivered a creative writing workshop for a class of students transitioning to secondary school, with highly positive feedback from both the students and teachers on the workshop.

• I have provided support for seven talented Year 12 students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them with the process of applying to university. Many of these students go on to study at Russell Group universities such as York.

• I have assisted a group of first-year education students on research projects relating to education. Through my assistance, the students gained knowledge of research methods, presentation skills, and teamwork skills.

• I have worked as an International Student Ambassador during my time at university, regularly writing to over 50 prospective international students with advice about applying to university in the UK. Many students wrote back to me to thank me for my comprehensive, thoughtful, and personalised help.

About the lesson

I am a recent graduate from York (BA English in Education), and an upcoming Cambridge MPhil student, with a passion for both English and education. It's my aim as a tutor to make students better readers, writers, and critical thinkers. I'm particularly open to helping secondary and sixth-form students with literature, poetry, and essay writing. I take an active and individualised approach, meeting students at the point of their current knowledge and then building upon that to introduce further complexity in their reading, writing, and analysis.

These are tough times for students, parents, and teachers, so it's my aim that my tutoring can provide a head start for students returning to school or being homeschooled from September.
