About Kitman

I have been teaching English for 15 years and have worked with students from very different backgrounds, ages and levels. What I enjoy most about teaching is seeing the moment when something that previously seemed difficult finally becomes clear to a student.

I believe you learn better when you are enjoying yourself. I have fun with my students, and I try to make my lessons feel enjoyable and engaging rather than like a traditional classroom. We talk, interact and work through English together, while I make sure that students are still making real progress.

My profile picture was taken while I was sharing my teaching approach with fellow experienced teachers at the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE). I was invited to speak with them about my approach to teaching.

I teach because I genuinely enjoy helping people make progress. Whether you are learning English for work, study or an IELTS goal, I want you to leave each lesson understanding something that you did not understand before.

About the lesson

My lessons are structured, systematic and tailored to each student’s needs. I do not simply follow a textbook or have students memorize rules. I first identify the areas that are holding you back, then build your skills step by step through explanation, guided practice and targeted exercises.

I teach English at different levels and to learners of different ages, from young children to adults. I also work with students with dyslexia and specialize in identifying and correcting pronunciation difficulties.

For IELTS students, I focus on both exam techniques and the underlying English skills needed to achieve a strong result. My previous IELTS students have typically achieved an overall band score of 7.0.

The first lesson is free and is primarily an assessment and consultation. We will discuss your background, goals and difficulties, and I will assess your current level. I will then tell you honestly whether I believe I can help you and what I recommend focusing on.

If I believe you do not need lessons with me, I will tell you. My aim is not simply to give lessons, but to make sure that the lessons are genuinely useful to you.
