About Al

I'm a confident and encouraging English teacher, with five years of experience. I've taught students from age 11-18, teaching across various GCSE and A-Level specifications, and I've dabbled in various subjects, although English is ultimately my area of expertise and passion. I find teaching hugely energising, and I always welcome the opportunity to inspire new students. I'm now working as an online tutor while I take a year's break from teaching in schools to travel in France.

About the lesson

I take a student-led approach - as an experienced teacher, I am equally happy delivering exam-focused courses or more expansive, creative, discussion-focused sessions on particular literary texts you might be studying at KS3, GCSE, A-Level or university. I generally begin with a consultation session where we discuss the student's needs, then offer several possible learning courses based on what I think will be most beneficial. Lesson length is also adaptable, though I would suggest 50-60 mins. Qualifications: PGCE, Goldsmiths BA English, University of Cambridge, First Class A Levels: English (A*), French (A), Philosophy (A) AS Level: Drama (A) GCSEs: 11 A* Experience: 5 years as an English Teacher 2023-25 - Central Foundation Girls' School, Tower Hamlets, London 2021-23 - Ark Globe Academy, Southwark, London 2020-21 - St Ivo Academy, Cambridgeshire Currently available to teach: KS3 English (Years 7-9) GCSE English Literature (Y10-11) GCSE English Language (Y10-11) GCSE Media Studies (Y10-11) A-Level English Literature (Y12-13) BA English (undergraduate)

Al is a superb teacher who has excelled at all levels of teaching English in UK secondary schools - Yr 7/8/9, GCSEs, & A-Level. Al excels at igniting in students a deep-seated and lasting love of Shakespeare and poetry and all other set texts while simultaneously instilling in them the fundamentals of exam technique and the necessary skills for top marks.
