About Kathryn
Hello! I’m a 29-year-old elementary teacher recently relocated from Melbourne to Vancouver. I hold a Bachelor of Education from Australian Catholic University, Melbourne, and have 7 years of teaching experience working with children aged 5 to 12. I consider myself a lifelong learner, always eager to step outside my comfort zone and embrace new experiences that help me grow both personally and professionally. I am kind, empathetic, and committed to encouraging and supporting every student to reach their full potential. Building a positive, trusting relationship is very important to me, so you can expect a learning environment where you feel safe, motivated, and valued.

I’ve taught in diverse settings across London, Melbourne, and Vancouver, giving me a well-rounded understanding of different curriculums and student needs.
I believe that reading and writing should be taught by first building the fundamental skills of phonics. I am trained in Sounds-Write, a highly structured, systematic synthetic phonics program, designed to help all children develop the skills they need to successfully read and write. I am experienced at supporting students to develop the 3 essential phonetic skills - segmenting, blending and phoneme manipulation. I have access to a range of resources to support and engage students in my lessons.
I am passionate about learning how each of my students’ learn, and tailoring my lessons to suit specific learning needs.
