About Sam

I am passionate about teaching because I believe in the transformative power of music education. Having taught drums since 2013, I have witnessed firsthand how music can enhance students' lives by fostering creativity, discipline, and confidence. I am driven by the joy of helping students become more musically aware, enabling them to express themselves and connect with others through rhythm and sound.

Teaching allows me to share the techniques and knowledge I've gained over the years, from foundational drum rudiments to advanced techniques like push-pull and bounce. I find fulfillment in guiding students of all ages and levels, helping them grow as musicians and individuals. Whether it’s a beginner taking their first steps in music or a more advanced student honing their skills, I am committed to providing a supportive and inspiring learning environment.

Through my experience as an instructor at The Music Lab and my role as a percussion instructor for concert bands in schools, I have seen the positive impact that dedicated teaching can have. My desire to teach is rooted in a deep love for music and a commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is rooted in a strong emphasis on foundational techniques. I teach drum fundamentals such as rudiments to develop control and precision with the hands, which are then applied to the drum set. Additionally, I cover advanced techniques like push-pull and bounce to expand students' drumming capabilities. Lessons are typically 45 minutes long, allowing for focused instruction and practice.

With over a decade of experience, I have been teaching drums since 2013, guiding students from primary to secondary school, with a focus on grades 1-8. My lessons are suitable for anyone aged 8 and above, regardless of their skill level. I have been an instructor at The Music Lab since 2016 and have served as a percussion instructor for concert band CCAs in primary and secondary schools. My experience is further enhanced by my performance background, including receiving a scholarship from the Jazz Association Singapore in 2021 and performing at prestigious venues like the Esplanade and Blu Jaz Cafe.

Please take note that I do not offer free trial classes.

Classes are priced at $70/45 minutes. If student is interested in having classes, we will then work out the transportation costs.
