My approach to teaching/tutoring varies depending on student age and subject matter to be taught. I find that younger students often need a hands-on approach (for instance, using manipulatives for math and reading together for ELA), while older learners need more wait-time while they work through problems/thoughts. Regardless of age, I ask a lot of questions and lead students through skills and processes rather than simply providing answers.
