About Emily
Does Common Core math stress you out? I spent my 4 years classroom teaching experience studying ways to make common core math more understandable for students. I have taught high school math in both KY and MI, both AP Stats and AP Calc, and ACT and SAT. I bring a well rounded knowledge and experience to individually cater to student's needs. I have a degree from the Eastern Michigan University in Secondary Math Education 6-12.

At this current time, students are very stressed out about math. While I assist a student with the current math assignments, I assist them in also understand the larger picture the math is working towards. I use positive reinforcement with my students to build confidence in themselves as a mathematician. Small growths, such as "Do I start the problem this way?" instead of "I don't get it," are great points to celebrate and note improvement and growth.
As a student's confidence grows we will also begin to work on strategies for improvement tailor made for each student. If a student is having issues with scoring well on an open note test, we may look for ways to organize the notes before the next test. If a student is not a strong test taker, we may focus on test taking skills such as eliminating distractors.
