About Greg

In addition to running my own practice for the last 20 years my career has led to teaching and inspiring students of architecture and design at various institutions.

My professional journey across architecture, interior design, architectural lighting, and product design has deeply shaped both my critical thinking and my approach to teaching architecture students. Working across these interrelated fields has taught me to see design not as a singular discipline, but as a layered, interconnected system that demands both precision and imagination.

In architecture, I learned to think at the scale of landscape and context, how buildings participate in their environments and cultural settings. Interior design refined my sensitivity to human experience, spatial choreography, and materiality. Lighting design trained me to understand how perception is shaped not just by form but by how it is revealed, temporally, atmospherically, and emotionally. Product design taught me to resolve ideas down to the most intimate, tactile detail, where craft, function, and fabrication meet.

This multidisciplinary practice has fostered a way of thinking that’s both systemic and forensic — zooming out to understand broader patterns and frameworks, then zooming in to test ideas through making, prototyping, and iteration. It's this fluid yet critical mindset that I bring into the studio and lecture hall.

When teaching, I encourage students to be rigorous but open-minded — to challenge convention not for its own sake, but to find more thoughtful, contextual, and human-centred solutions. I ask them to look beyond disciplinary boundaries and explore how architecture can learn from adjacent fields: how a lighting condition can reframe a spatial narrative, or how the ergonomics of a product can inform a plan’s logic.

Ultimately, I aim to cultivate in students a design intelligence that is curious, critical, and deeply engaged, capable of addressing complexity with clarity, and grounded in both creative ambition and technical knowledge.

When I was 25 I was asked to assist as a design tutor on the Access in to Architecture course at London Metropolitan University whilst I was completing my Postgraduate Diploma.

I spent 5 years teaching on the foundation and undergraduate courses there and over the last 20years I have given talks and/or taught at Brighton University, Oxford Brookes University, Sheffield University, Kingston University and Edinburgh College of Art.
