About Jacob

I hold a BA in Philosophy from UCL and an MSc in Psychology from the University of Glasgow. My academic background provides me with a deep understanding of complex ideas and human behaviour, which I enjoy sharing through my tutoring in both philosophy and psychology. I bring an analytical, critical-thinking approach to my sessions, focusing on making abstract concepts accessible and relevant to each student. With extensive experience teaching English as a foreign language, I am adept at breaking down language barriers and communicating clearly across disciplines. My approach is student-centred, aiming to cultivate independent thinking, curiosity, and practical understanding. Whether supporting a student’s philosophical arguments or exploring psychological theories, I tailor each session to suit individual learning styles and goals, ensuring an engaging and supportive environment for growth and academic success.

Techniques and Teaching Methodology:
My lessons are highly student-centered, focusing on making complex ideas and concepts accessible and engaging. I combine an analytical and critical-thinking approach with clear communication, tailoring each session to the individual’s needs, learning style, and goals. For philosophy and psychology, I encourage independent thinking by breaking down abstract theories and applying them to real-world contexts. For English as a foreign language, I use interactive methods such as discussions, games, and practical exercises to improve language skills while fostering confidence. My sessions emphasize curiosity, clarity, and active participation to ensure students stay motivated and achieve their best.

Typical Lesson Length:
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, though they can be adjusted to suit the student's schedule and focus level.

Qualifications and Experience:
I hold a BA in Philosophy from University College London and an MSc in Psychology from the University of Glasgow. My academic training has given me a solid foundation in critical analysis and human behaviour, which I incorporate into my teaching. I also hold a 120-hour TEFL certification and have extensive experience teaching English as a foreign language, including working as a teaching assistant with the British Council in Vigo, Spain.

Who the Lessons Are For:
I work with students of all levels and ages:

Philosophy and Psychology: High school, undergraduate, or anyone with an interest in these subjects.
English as a Foreign Language: Beginner to advanced students, focusing on both academic and practical language skills.
Whether you’re preparing for exams, seeking to deepen your understanding, or aiming to improve your language proficiency, I offer a personalized and engaging approach to help you succeed.
