About Mikaela

I am an Australian who has been living and travelling in the UK since March this year. I was a classroom and learning support teacher back in Australia and have also worked in numerous schools across Bristol since moving here. I am friendly and enthusiastic in my approach to teaching and learning and always try to make it fun. I focus on fostering a safe and open environment that allows for deep learning.

My previous years of experience in classroom teaching and learning support has allowed me to build a strong foundation for the curriculum and effective methods of teaching. I help my students acquire the skills they need to flourish and instill confidence in their own abilities. I have a passion for teaching and am experienced in working with children who have different needs. I love watching that light bulb moment and seeing their confidence build over each lesson.

About the lesson

I am able to offer hour long online or in person sessions dependent on your location. Each lesson starts with a chat with the student to ascertain what we will be trying to do in the lesson. It is important to be that we build a positive relationship from the get go so I always ask about their hobbies and interests to see if we can incorporate that into the lessons in meaningful ways. Once we set out objectives together, we proceed with the work. Every student has different needs; some may need more direction and others thrive with a free rein to experiment with their own ideas.

My overarching goal with every student is to give them confidence. This of course involves imparting useful skills to them but also making sure they have a positive mindset when it comes to approaching things on their own. Feedback is very important to me and I have done extensive professional development on effective ways of giving and receiving feedback for children.

I can assist your primary aged child in any subject they require support or extension in. My lessons are fun and engaging and aim to ensure your child makes gains in their area of need. I am experienced in early years literacy development and have a special interest in writing, both creative and analytical.
