About Christos
I am a graduate from Imperial College London and Westminster School with a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering MEng and have undertaken research at Imperial College London in the fields of green hydrogen and thermofluids. I also proofread scholarly articles and research journal papers for institutions such as ETH Zurich and Imperial College London.
I have tutored for approximately 5500 hours over eight years and during this period I have helped over fifty students gain entry to higher education, that are currently studying STEM subjects at top universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial College. The vast majority have obtained A*s and As at A-Level. I also tutor several degree level students, five of which have just been awarded First Class and Upper Second Class honours in their respective subjects.

My lessons are almost always two hours long and tend to follow a plan of five stages:
Stage 1: 0-15 minutes
Quick catch up with student e.g. how school/university is going etc. Run through content of previous lesson, discuss with student how they did in their homework, address any questions they got wrong, and assess progress to-date (new topics for future, where we are in the termly calendar etc.)
Stage 2: 15-45 min Develop theory in previous lesson further e.g. going into new sub-topics related to previous lesson, making bullet point notes and highlighting key elements of a subject. Keep student engaged by asking questions throughout the note making process and keep an eye out for any issues that the student might have in conceptual understanding that present themselves at this stage.
Stage 3: 45-90 min
Lots of practice. Go through exam-style questions on the topic, and also self-made ones that may be necessary for tailoring to the particular needs of the student within the subject area.
Stage 4: 90-100 min
Final practice for particular questions that the student struggled the most with in the previous stage followed by a verbal discussion around the topic in general e.g. practical applications of the theory covered (as a method of stoking interest in the area)
Stage 5: 100-120 min
Going through everything covered in the lesson as a conclusion, and setting homework e.g. the last twenty questions of an exercise sheet covered in class.
I find the process of improving a student’s understanding very rewarding and focus on a wholesome learning experience, always inviting my students to ask questions and attempt problems by themselves before I explain a solution and subsequently work through similar problems step-by-step until the content is grasped. The main emphasis in my lessons is to develop sound conceptual understanding, followed by fluency in answering practise questions, thus targeting excellent performance in exams. I also offer advice on personal statements and help with interview and admission test preparation, and am at your disposal throughout the week for any phone calls about homework problems, university applications, careers, and so on.
All this experience throughout has kept me aware of the challenges young learners face, the kindness, understanding, and dedication that lies in a good teacher, and the importance of tailoring communication and teaching styles to the needs of the particular student. On that note, finding a tutor who fits well with your requirements is never easy so do reach out to me for a short and free video chat so I can answer any questions you might have.
In my spare time I hike and compose music for film (I also teach music). Instruments that I play include cello, piano, guitar, and I also sing.
Please see below my qualifications and I look forward to meeting you!
2015: Ten A*s at GCSE and iGCSE
2017: Three A*s at A-Level in Maths, Further Maths, and Physics (100% in five exams)
2022: Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London (Hons)
