About Franklynn

I absolutely love teaching! I know how scary school can be, so I hope to be the empowering support that builds your confidence and calms your nerves.

I earned my MSc in Developmental Neuroscience & Psychology from University College London (UK), during which I also studied and worked as a Visiting Research Scholar at Yale University. After a period of work, I returned to academia at the University of Toronto to complete an MA in Sociology. I'm currently part-way through a PhD in Gender Studies and a Diploma in Psychotherapy.

I have also worked as a Research Lead, Workshop Facilitator, and Program Manager in community mental health and non-profits. Therefore, I have years of experience writing professional or research reports, articles, and grant applications.

I've been providing individual tutoring and writing feedback for twelve years, both privately and as a Teaching Assistant in university courses. I have broad training and knowledge across the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. I also regularly provide writing/content feedback and advice on cover letters, grant applications, and grad school applications. Let me help you with your next writing endeavour!

Many people have great ideas but just struggle to clearly express them in writing. Some need support as they adapt to academic or professional writing expectations. That's where I can help!

I have years of experience supporting students, academics and professionals with their writing. I've helped people develop and edit their essays, reports, articles, statements, dissertations, cover letters, applications, grants, etc.

I have a wide range of writing experiences to draw from to understand your goals and target audience. My graduate degrees and research span the social sciences, sciences, and arts. I have also worked in media.

My aim is not only to help with a specific project, but to teach you the writing skills that work for you. I know how anxiety-producing writing can be! I'm patient, enthusiastic, and strengths-based, adapting to your needs to ensure you're feeling well supported.

During an online session, we can talk through your writing approach and goals, make a writing outline, or review a draft together. I can also return writing drafts with detailed comments and advice on any (or all) of the following you'd like advice on:

- structure (e.g. content flow, paragraph structure)
- essay argument & thesis (e.g. are you clearly and strongly making your point and providing enough evidence for your argument?)
- writing clarity & style
- grammar, punctuation, & spelling
- proper citation and formatting (e.g. APA, MLA, Chicago)
- comprehension (e.g. have you understood the material you're writing about, such as research findings or concepts?)
- creativity/style

For writing feedback on drafts you send me electronically, I can estimate the hours required based on the length of the writing and what level of feedback is expected. If you're working within a budget, please let me know so we can stick within it.
