About the lesson

As an ESL teacher, my core philosophy is to transition students from passive learning to active communication, ensuring language acquisition feels natural rather than robotic.
Here is how I structure my approach, design my lessons, and support my students:

Teaching Methods & Techniques

• The Communicative Approach (CLT): I treat language as a tool for connection, not just a set of rules. Grammar and vocabulary are always taught through real-world context, encouraging students to speak from the very first minute.
• The PPP Framework (Presentation, Practice, Production):
• Presentation: I introduce a clear linguistic target (e.g., the past tense or shopping vocabulary) using visual aids.
• Practice: We do structured drills, sentence matching, or gap-fill exercises to build structural confidence.
• Production: The safety wheels come off. The student uses the new language freely in an unscripted conversation or role-play.
• Scaffolding & Concept Checking: I break down complex native idioms and phonetics into micro-steps. I use Concept Checking Questions (CCQs) rather than asking "Do you understand?" to verify actual comprehension.
• High Student Talking Time (STT): I strictly limit teacher talk. My goal is a 70/30 split, where the student speaks for 70% of the session while I facilitate, listen, and take notes for feedback.
