About Amy

As a fourth year medical student, I am pursuing my passion in the academic field and to help people!
I matriculated in 2019 with eight distinctions and thoroughly enjoyed being challenged and helping other students.
I have tutored at a high school level in person and online in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Afrikaans and English.
I love working with children and young adults from all backgrounds. I pursued this dream in 2018 as the Johannesburg Junior Mayor and look forward to continuing this passion of mine.

About the lesson

My main motto in life is that relationships are the most important thing. Without a firm and encouraging relationship, it is very difficult to be productive and to learn.
I therefore am dedicated to interacting and engaging with people deeply. I am passionate about people and helping but also passionate about finding new ways to learn and see the world. Studying medicine has challenged me to find creative study ideas, new ways to make study notes and improved memory skills.

Therefore, to incorporate this into my lessons, each session would have the ultimate goal of encouraging and building the student up. The most important thing to me would be to engage with the student and really find their strong points and their weaker points in the theory or practical sections of the subject. To do this, I would look at past results and comments but also find out where the student personally feels insecure or unsure.
After this goal has been achieved, each lesson will be structured towards achieving a specific goal. Whether it be to cover a particular concept or practice a few examples, the lesson will be focused on manageable goals.
In order to achieve these goals in each lessons, I will have a very interactive approach. Whether using visual aids or bringing a new angle to the concept, I aim to make learning enjoyable and thus memorable.
Furthermore, I believe that practice is the tool that drives success and therefore each lesson will be filled with examples to demonstrate and allow for practice.
Each lesson will begin with a quick revision of the last lesson in the form of a quiz or just talking about how the student feels about the concepts. The lessons will also end in a quick recap of the ideas covered to fully consolidate each concept.

All my lessons will be based on the principle of creating and maintaining a good working relationship so that the student will be built up. I believe strongly in empathy, fun and encouragement and hope to bring that through in lessons.
