About Anna
I'm a 20 year old student and I read History at Durham University. I am an enthusiastic, experienced tutor who is passionate about teaching and helping others learn; hoping that this will fulfil my career plan to become a teacher. I love helping people to understand and develop their own ideas, and I find tutoring an extremely rewarding job. I have been tutoring and mentoring students since I was in school. For a year I have tutored a GCSE Further Maths student, meeting on a weekly basis to tackle mathematical problems and questions required for their exam. In the same year I both mentored and tutored a GCSE History student who was struggling with exam-based answers. We met two to three times a week to learn and revise content, write and discuss arguments and improve essay structures. This experience enabled me to learn how to best transfer my own skills and knowledge, whilst developing my critical and analytical feedback. Both of these jobs helped me to adapt to different teaching styles appropriate for the individual student, and learn how different styles suit different students. I have understood that everyone learns differently, and my time being a tutor had helped me find different delivery methods that work best for each pupil. On top of this, I also mentored a young girl who was finding settling into school difficult. Together, we set goals and targets for her to achieve (for example, coming off of report card) and discussed possible reasons and solutions for her behaviour. Through this I learned that it's important to build a personal relationship with a student and find out a bit about their lives outside of academia, in order to have a greater impact on their learning. I have found that being a young tutor has its benefits, as being of a closer age to the student enables me to relate to them easily and perhaps makes it easier to build a personal relationship, as well as just an academic-based one. I have noticed that they often feel less pressured and more open to ask questions to someone of a more similar age. In my spare time I enjoy playing sports, such as football and netball, reading and playing piano. Anna tutored me for a year and was perfect for my needs, she was very flexible as my timetable was often changing. She encouraged a positive attitude when i was finding a topic difficult and always offered extra lessons over skype for free closer to my exam to consolidate my learning.
Anna attended Sheldon School from September 2011 - June 2018. Throughout this time, she was an exceptional student displaying many social and academic qualities.
She was incredibly conscientious, highly motivated and exhibited an exceptional work ethic, both in, and out of the classroom. Deadlines were always met and work was consistently detailed and accurate.
In addition to her academic excellence, Anna was always willing to make a greater contribution to the wider school community. She took on a number of significant roles without hindering her studies. This shows excellent time and workload management. Anna was a prefect in Key Stage 4. She was part of three successful Ten Tors teams which showed her ability to function in a team environment and it showed her determination and resilience. She was a member of several successful school sports teams with an excellence in netball and football. In the sixth form, Anna was also a mentor to lower school pupils. It is the skills that she exhibited in this role that makes her a strong candidate for a role in tutoring.
Anna contributed to several charity events and she was a vibrant, friendly, caring member of the sixth form community.
I have no hesitation in recommending Anna for this position. She demonstrated all the skills necessary throughout her time at Sheldon School. She acquired outstanding A level grades and will be moving on to study a degree at Durham University.Anna is a very reliable person, she helped me a lot in my history research project. She was always true to her word and helped me to understand new and difficult concepts.
As an experienced tutor myself, I can recognise when someone knows how to teach. I can attest that Anna is very good at working with young people and has a keen sense of what to spend more time explaining. She is good at delivering content in many ways so that it will be understood.
Overall I am very happy with the tutoring that Anna has given me and I consider her a very good friend.View more recommendations
