About Ben

I am a senior in college, majoring in Classical Studies (Greek & Latin), attending the Joint Degree Programme between William & Mary (VA) and the University of St Andrews (Scotland). I currently have a 4.0 college GPA. I know Latin and Ancient Greek to the advanced level, having read numerous classical authors in the original. Even as an undergraduate student, I regularly present my research at professional-level academic conferences. I scored a 5 in AP Latin in high school and have been awarded numerous times for achievement in exams such as the National Latin and Greek Exams, CAMWS International Advanced Latin Translation Exams (high school and college levels), and numerous national high school competitions. Additionally, I have over five years of tutoring experience within and beyond the field of classical studies. I am highly committed to my students, and I can guarantee a professional, engaging, and fun experience.

About the lesson

I offer online teaching and tutoring for Latin and Ancient Greek, whether you're just starting out or tackling Vergil or Homer in the original. I use a modern approach to classical language learning, combining the best of traditional grammar-based methods with the insights gained from contemporary second language acquisition research. Lessons will consist mainly of guided reading from level-appropriate Latin texts, with a focus on reading comprehension, and explicit grammar instruction as desired/necessary. For more advanced students, especially those enrolled in a high school/college course, I am adaptable to the needs of your class and can offer translation-based instruction, close reading, and literary analysis.

In addition to general Latin/Greek instruction, I offer preparation for the following exams:
AP Latin (5)
National Latin Exam (3x perfect score)
National Greek Exam (3x awarded)
