About Josh

Who am I? I recently graduated from studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, with a focus on Neuroscience. Science is my passion, I've loved it at every level I've studied it, and a desire to pass on my passion is part of what made me become a tutor. Outside of my degree I love acting, theatre and music. I am an enthusiastic, patient and friendly tutor, and truly enjoy teaching. When I was studying for my A-Levels I ran a class called Maths for Chemists to cover the maths in Chemistry for those who weren't taking A-Level Maths which gave me a strong foundation in tutoring. I also worked for a Youth Theatre which gave me experience in engaging with students of all ages. How do I tutor? What we cover in our tutoring sessions is exactly what you want and need me to cover. I like to work on a system of constant feedback so as soon as you want to move on, or if you'd like to spend some more time on something, just tell me and I'll adjust to you so our sessions are personalised to maximise your individual success. Each session will begin by establishing what you already know or what you know that's similar to what we will be covering. I'll then talk with you to understand what you'd like to work on, and try to break down the concepts through which ever medium works best for you which could be any of metaphors, examples or pictures. When we both agree that you've gained an understanding of the topic, we'll try some questions to test your understanding, so you can see how to apply what you've learnt in your exams. Can I help you with an Oxbridge application? I can! I remember going through the application process myself and know how stressful it can feel. If you'd like some first-hand knowledge of what sort of questions they ask in an interview, what to include in a personal statement or even just what studying at Cambridge is like, get in touch. I interviewed for Natural Sciences, which covers Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths questions, which are the topics I can provide the best interview coaching for.

About the lesson

I am an enthusiastic tutor who has been tutoring Science and Maths for over 3 years now. My approach is to instil an understanding (as opposed to a memorisation) of any topic I cover, and to link all work done back to exam style questions. This gives students the flexibility to adapt to any question they may find in an exam and prepares them well for future work.
