About Ashlyn

I am a current graduate student in English and Literary studies who previously worked as a college essay tutor, something I never could have imagined as a child. Reading and writing were extremely difficult subjects for me in school, leaving a feeling of hopelessness for many years. As I got older, I was able to find tools that allowed me to excel where I never had before and it is an amazing feeling. I fell in love with English and have dedicated the last eight years to furthering my education in the field. I am not perfect, like all others I am always learning, and I do not expect perfection from those I tutor, only their best whatever that may be. To me, tutoring is a way to help those who struggle by no fault of their own, and assist them in their personal journeys. There is no one size fits all approach to education.

I believe in creating an open and inclusive space for all students, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, sexual identity, education, national origin, or any other distinguishing characteristic or trait.

About the lesson

Growing up with a learning impairment, I know the struggle many students face when their needs are not being met in a traditional classroom setting. I believe in customizing the educational experience and finding new and creative approaches to learning that works with students where they are, not where they are expected to be in order to help them not only better understand the material, but feel more confident moving forward. All lessons are student led and based on their individual goals and needs.

Lessons open to students from elementary school to college undergraduate. Essay lessons are MLA by default, but I do have experience in APA and Chicago as well.

The first half-hour lesson is free and will be used as a consultation to better understand the student, their needs, and their goals.

If additional materials are needed for the course, additional fees may apply. For example, if tutoring requires a specific text not already in the tutors possession or freely available online, the cost of the text is to be covered by the student (or guardians there of).
