About Medina

I am a university student at Toronto Metropolitan University, completing an Arts degree with an Honors distinction. Fun fact about me, I'm actually from Vancouver and just recently moved to Toronto! I am extremely passionate about English, especially about literature. In high school, I challenged myself with multiple AP courses and earned a 4 on the AP Literature exam. Since starting university, I’ve consistently maintained high grades, reflecting both my strong academic foundation and my commitment to learning. I bring that same dedication, clarity, and enthusiasm into my tutoring. My goal is to make students feel supported, confident, and capable—no matter their current level. About the lesson

Hi, my name is Medina. I am a university student at TMU. I am offering tutoring services for high school students, both in AP and non-AP English classes. My goal and my focus is to break English concepts down in a way that is manageable, clear, and relevant to what the student is currently learning. I use active discussion, guided questioning, and examples from the real world and their assignments to help students develop analysis skills, break down texts, and communicate their ideas. I am focused on meeting students where they’re at.
A typical lesson will be preceded by the student or their guardian sending over the concept/lesson they’re working on. Before we begin, I will check in with the student and how they’re feeling about their work in class before we begin to review specific assignments, concepts, and skills. Before finishing, we review what they learned, what they feel more confident about, and what we’ll work on next time. Students may be assigned practice problems to complete before our next tutoring session. Each session focuses on building skills they can use independently.
I have fresh, firsthand experience with high-level writing expectations. My strong grades reflect not just understanding the material, but being able to apply it clearly and effectively. I’m patient, encouraging, and genuinely enjoy helping students gain confidence. I’ve also taken AP Literature and scored a 4, so I understand both high school and early university expectations.
My services are ideal for high school students (but can also work with middle school students upon special request) who are taking standard English courses, AP Literature, or any writing-heavy course. Students who struggle with reading comprehension, literary analysis, vocabulary, and essay structure are students I can help succeed.
