About Bonnie
I have earned both a BA and MA in English with a focus in Creative Writing; I attended Oxford during my undergraduate studies, am a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, and maintained a 4.0 in my major. I have taught middle school, high school, and college English; have covered Composition/Essay writing, Professional Writing, Creative Writing, and Literature; and have also taught reading and writing to adults struggling with illiteracy. I'm now a stay-at-home Mom but lifelong teacher, tutor and autodidact preparing to go back to school for my Ph.D. I minored in Philosophy and Comparative Religion, but am also very confident in my ability to teach mathematics: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Test Prep.

When I meet a student, my first goal is to ascertain how that student best aquires and retains knowledge. Whether it's through casual conversation during an individual conference or on the essay I give to students their first day in my classroom, I try to both create a way for a student to teach me how they learn and to teach the student the importance of understanding their own learning process. I'm visual and tactile and struggle to absorb information though auditory means alone. However, I know plenty of people who learn primarily through the sense of hearing. Anyone who has been around babies has seen that they discover size, texture, and shape orally, new objects directly going into their mouths. It's important to my teaching Philosophy to ascertain how a student approaches a question or problem, and how he or she approaches the world. This helps me to succeed in teaching, and I've found that it consistently improves students' work in my classroom and their understanding of the other subjects they study.
