About Brena
I’m originally from Brazil and have lived in the United States for more than 20 years. I initially moved here to attend college on a full scholarship and have since built my academic and professional career in the U.S.
I have about three years of experience teaching English in Brazil and have also taught both English and Portuguese in the United States. I studied at American universities, including Columbia University, have experience with academic writing and published research in English, and have worked in the U.S. corporate environment for more than 15 years.
I enjoy teaching because I know from personal experience how learning another language can open new academic, professional, and personal opportunities. My goal is to help students develop not only their English skills, but also the confidence to actually use them.

My lessons are personalized based on each student’s level, interests, and goals. I believe the best way to learn a language is by using it, so I emphasize conversation and real-life situations while incorporating grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary in context.
We can focus on everyday or travel English, conversation, academic or professional English, interview preparation, or specific situations related to work or school.
My goal is to help you not only understand English, but also feel comfortable and confident using it naturally. During our first lesson, we’ll discuss your needs and goals so I can tailor our lessons to what you actually want to accomplish.
