I have tutored intermittently in spanish, english, science, math, art, and social studies. I try to tailor tutoring sessions to student interest so that my students are learning what they need to without trying to force themselves to do something they don't want to do. Hello, my name is Samantha and I am a tutor looking to help with English schoolwork from elementary to highschool level. I can assist with literary analysis, essay writing, breaking down and planning large assignments, or how to get started on a project of your own. Please contact me with any inquiries!
Generally a tutoring session would include bringing a concept or assignment that the student needs assistance with and working on that followed by additional help with related skills or supplementary material.
For example if the assignment was to analyze a piece of poetry from Emily Dickinson based on the syllables in each line the session would start with the student showing me how they'd initially approach the problem/what they've already done, doing that together and providing support or supplemental techniques, and additional materials.
Support for an assignment like this might be adding dots under each syllable so it's abundantly clear how things sound and the numbers that should be included in the analysis or helping a student word their answer to appropriate length and depth.
Additional materials might be doing the same thing with Shakespeare who has a notable pentameter or musical counting exercises, examining how punctuation can tell you to read things verbally and popcorn reading, or further analyzing the poem using color symbolism and cultural context.
Additional instruction is based mostly on student skill level and interests.
