About Elizabeth

I am a former certified English teacher (grades 6-12 in the U.S.) with extensive experience tutoring all ages, from first grade phonics to adult ESL. As a Fellow at a university Center for Writing and Scholarship, I created and led writing workshops and tutored graduate students across programs. I also taught English classes K-12 in Ukraine as a Peace Corps volunteer, and as an AmeriCorps member I managed a tutoring center for children that struggle with reading. Currently I work in academic publishing. I love helping students cultivate skill, joy, and confidence in their language abilities.

I am informed by the classical education tradition. Classical education involves the study and emulation of excellent works and methods that have withstood the test of time.

About the lesson

I appreciate how a relationship can be built and the lesson can be customized when tutoring one-on-one. This attention gives the student an opportunity to express confusion about or mastery of the topic and be seen as a developing individual. I value the human side of education and view it as a way for people to move toward wisdom and accomplishment.

It has been a joy to tutor Olga and Shantanu's son Darsh. He actively wants to improve his writing and grammar skills, and he's growing in his knowledge of Latin vocabulary roots as well. I look forward to seeing him progress as he enters 9th grade!
