About Cain

I have taught in classrooms and privately tutored for 5 years, with pupils as young as 9 and as old as 29. I am experienced teaching bottom band/set classes and top band/set classes, adapting my teaching style appropriately. I have personally overseen the Oxbridge applications of multiple English students and have taught classes in history and politics as well. I am particularly proud of pupils of mine who have mastered English as a second or third language and gone on to study at English-speaking universities. I myself hold a first-class degree in English and Comparative Literature from the University of Warwick. The most important thing you ought to know about me is that I am an easy-going and well-established teacher and I will get you where you want to be in the subject.

About the lesson

Above all, I want pupils to be able to articulate what they think. It is the most important exam skill but, more importantly, it is a skill for life. I have a prevailing focus on written communication, clarity of grammar and deployment of good vocabulary. Lessons are typically 40 minutes, maximising attention and retention. We will focus on set texts, with small passages of required reading where useful. All pupils will begin with a session designed to assess their current level and how we can expect to meet their goals in the subject.

I have been a classroom teacher for a number of years and have worked with gifted pupils and struggling pupils from all contexts. I love my teaching subjects, I take great pride in working with young people and I always provide results.
