About Aoife

I am a current graduate student completing my single subject teaching credential in English. I also substitute teach for one of the largest school districts in California! I have worked with the Boys and Girls Club of America as a tutor in the past, and am proud of the accomplishments my students have made. I am experienced working with English Language Learners, as well as students with developmental delays and behavioral issues. I love nothing more than inspiring the love of reading and writing in others, and I hope I have the chance to work with you!

About the lesson

I typically work with secondary students in grades 6th-12th, but am always open to working with other age groups. I individualize my lessons based on the unique needs of each student. I do not believe in doing the work for students; I prefer to guide the student through their thought process, allowing them to build their work in their unique voice. I am always there to answer questions and offer assistance, but I want my students to master the concept so that they can comfortably access that knowledge in the future. I prefer a top-down method, mastering the big picture before digging into the nitty-gritty of writing. Once a student has grasped the "hard" stuff, the little things come together much easier!

If you need to cancel your lesson, please provide 24 hours notice. If you do not provide 24 hours notice, I refrain the right to refuse to schedule a lesson with you again. If you need to reschedule your lesson, please provide as much notice as possible. Last-minute cancellations may lead to future lessons being canceled.

I will travel up to 10 miles outside of Sherman Oaks (91423) to tutor. If you would like me to travel further, please note this will incur a travel fee. Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding this travel fee.

I charge the same rate for all students, regardless of age. I am currently charging below the average for English tutors in my area. My rates may change in the future. If you require extra help, I recommend booking 5-hour/10-hour sessions, which will save you a bit of money!
