About Jane
I am a highly qualified English Language Professional with 20 years experience, a Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL Dip.), a post-graduate teaching qualification (PGCE) and a Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching.
I have experience helping learners develop all areas of their English, including: grammar, idioms, vocabulary, collocation, reading, writing, and all aspects of pronunciation and verbal communication, for example: accuracy, fluency, sentence stress, intonation, listening skills, as well as supporting clients to prepare for various exams such as IELTS, Cambridge exams and TOEFL.
I also work with clients to build CONFIDENCE and reach CAREER GOALS!
Do you struggle with confidence when speaking English? Many people who speak English as a second language need to build their confidence alongside their language skills. Often they do not realise how good their language is, they worry that people cannot always understand them first time, and they fear making mistakes. Most of my students living in the UK do not get enough opportunity to practice or improve their English, so they reach a plateau and struggle to keep improving. This can be very frustrating!
I can help you get moving again, so you can see your language improving and reach your goals. I will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses in English, and also your strengths and weaknesses as a learner. Skills such as: motivation, goal setting, having a high-frustration tolerance, a willingness to make mistakes, and high levels of resilience, will set you up for success in learning the English language – which, let’s face it, is not exactly logical! – as well as enabling your to reach your life and career goals.
I am also a qualified Life Coach so I often combine language teaching with career coaching, as I have found that many of my language students feel stuck in jobs in which they are not using their full range of skills or fulfilling their potential.
I have helped many students improve their language, alongside developing confidence, and building work-related skills, such as: speaking in meetings, addressing conflict, dealing with difficult people and managing teams, as well as: job applications, job interview techniques and giving presentations.
I also learnt a second language as an adult – Spanish - so I know the process of learning a second language, with its many ups and downs and I can help you stay motivated and on track.

I work one to one or I teach small groups online using Skype. My approach is firstly to gather information about the background of the clients and then develop a curriculum which personalised to their needs. This includes finding out about their educational background and study skills, including their previous experience of language learning, their interests, their concerns about their English, their language goals and their career goals, as well as analysing their speech and researching first language interference if they want to work on speaking and pronunciation. English has more vowel sounds than most European languages so this can cause difficulties. My sessions are 1 hour and 10 minutes long and the last 10 minutes is dedicated to reviewing the session. I set and mark homework depending on the needs of the client.
