About Charlotte
English Literature has always been my strength in academia and I am passionate about learning and sharing knowledge.
I have been in tutoring positions before coming to university. I was the English Literature Ambassador whilst attending sixth form and was responsible for offering support, guidance and revision sessions for pupils taking GCSEs.
I have also been involved in scouting for 10+ years and have been a young leader for beavers and cubs. I am comfortable with teaching all age groups and abilities. In addition to this I have been involved in Air Cadets, often training new recruits and teaching theory lessons. This helped me attain a certain degree of professionalism whilst teaching.

English can often be perceived as boring and stuffy so when tutoring English I like to make my activities more interactive and fun, especially in mixed ability sessions. In order to retain any kind of understanding or information on a subject it is more effective, in my opinion, to enjoy what is being taught. Some common modes I like to use are quizzes, sharades, memory games and dramatisation.
I am however a stickler for detail and believe that you can never have too much practice when it comes to essay writing and exam preparation. Mock papers and writing exercises are essential in improving literacy skills and recognising ones strengths so naturally I like to set these as homework tasks. I often find writing mock examples of questions and having the students pick out my short comings and mistakes is also helpful. When under exam pressure students can feel as if they are being spotlighted and constantly watched; critical exercises encourage pupils to hone their critical skills and identify the dos and don’ts of essays and exam practice without feeling exposed.
