About Rob
I have been an English teacher for the better part of a decade. I hold a BA in Education and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. I believe that reading and writing are the most important skill a student can acquire as they are embedded in every other subject (even math). When you become good at reading, you become better at everything else. I have studied the Science of Reading and employ those research-based strategies in my own classroom on a daily basis.
Everyone can become a good reader and writer, they just need to focus on what THEY need. This is not always aligned with what their grade level is currently teaching, which is why tutoring can make all the difference in the world.

My lessons are geared toward students in grades 4 - 9, who need help or want to get ahead in English and Language Arts.
Reading and writing can be simple when students focus their practice on research-based, meaningful skills that lead to mastery.
Typically, this starts with a baseline diagnostic of reading comprehension, oral fluency, and a writing sample.
Based on these assessments, we can begin learning and practicing exactly what the student needs in order to meet their individual goal.
We can work to fill any gaps in knowledge quickly to help your student reach grade-level standard performance, and we can work beyond that to help them perform at an accelerated level.
