My name is Rebekah Renee Grado. I was born and raised out in the west Texas town of El Paso. I am an adjunct professor at the local college and my focus is in making concepts in close reading, critical thinking, and composition accessible for all 21st century students. There is an emphasis on reflection, both in reading and in writing, as a way to confirm learning, retain knowledge, and make connections.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English and American Literature, with a minor in Inter-American Jewish Studies, from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), which is where I also earned my Master of Arts in Engl and Am Literature, with a concentration in multi-cultural literature. My graduate seminar paper, “Rubbing our dirt on to them”: Mimicking the English Culture of Hygiene in George Orwell’s Burmese Days, was awarded UTEP's Liberal Arts Award for Outstanding Extended Seminar Paper.

Rebekah's method of teaching is outstanding. As a former student, I found myself looking forward to her lessons due to her enthusiasm and teaching methods. She always encouraged feedback from her students. Ms. Rebekah made being engaged in class an easy task. Ms. Rebekah's approach was very perceptive and open minded. She was always willing to consider all opinions and explored them further. There was never a lack of diversity and challenge in her classroom but she was always willing to help her students reach the level of understanding needed to get the most out of the experience. She is extremely easy to talk to and is a great listener. Her material is always eye-opening, intriguing and presented in a thoughtful way. I would not only recommend her but would urge anyone who has the opportunity to learn with her to do so! I am lucky to have been privileged enough to have been a student of Ms. Rebekah's.

-ChallengingWhen Rebekah is working with a student one on one her effective listening skills allow her to tailor the information in a way that best suits the student in regards to knowledge base, thinking styles and overall perception of academic English studies. A wonderfully adaptive teacher with the ability to engage students on multiple levels. In working with Rebekah I feel my writing skills and rhetorical influence have significantly improved.
Her commitment to her students and the personal approach she brings to her learning curriculum, so that each student feels cared for and able to trust with his/her problems with assignments/ general schoolwork. Rebekah Grado is one of the most dedicated instructors I have had the pleasure of having. I came out of her class having a passion for literature that I did not have before, which is something that is rare for me.
