About Shripad
I am a University of Washington Bioengineering student with more than five years of tutoring and youth mentorship experience. From November 2018 through June 2024, I worked at Kumon in Bothell, where I supported students from Pre-K through 12th grade in English and mathematics, including advanced math through Calculus III.
Throughout my time at Kumon, I worked in classrooms of up to 30 students while still providing individualized support based on each student’s needs, pace, and learning style. This experience taught me how to explain difficult concepts clearly, identify where a student is struggling, and help them develop the confidence to solve problems independently.
Beyond tutoring, I am the Founder and President of Education for Washington Youth, a University of Washington student organization focused on STEM education and mentorship. I currently lead a team of university mentors supporting middle-school students through Science Olympiad and other academic enrichment programs.
I also work at Seattle Children’s Hospital, where I regularly interact with children and families in a professional clinical environment. This experience has strengthened my communication skills, patience, reliability, and ability to make younger students feel comfortable and supported.
I take tutoring seriously and aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and improving at their own pace. My goal is not simply to help students finish an assignment or pass a test, but to help them build stronger problem-solving skills, confidence, and independence that they can carry into future classes.

My approach to tutoring is centered on helping students understand how to solve problems independently rather than simply giving them the answer. After working with students from Pre-K through 12th grade for more than five years at Kumon, I learned that every student needs a slightly different explanation, pace, and level of support. I try to identify exactly where a student is getting stuck, break the concept into smaller steps, and gradually reduce my assistance as their confidence and understanding improve.
A typical lesson begins with a quick check of the student's current understanding and goals. From there, I review any concepts they are struggling with, work through an example together, and then have the student attempt similar problems independently. When a student makes a mistake, I usually ask guiding questions rather than immediately correcting them so they can identify what went wrong themselves. I finish by reviewing the main concept, identifying anything that still needs practice, and setting a clear goal for the next session.
What sets me apart is the range of students I have worked with. At Kumon, I helped manage classrooms of up to 30 students at once while providing individualized support in English from Pre-K through 12th grade and mathematics from basic arithmetic through Calculus III. I also founded Education for Washington Youth, where I lead university mentors and coach middle-school students in STEM and Science Olympiad. These experiences have taught me how to work with students who are advanced, struggling, disengaged, anxious, or simply need a different way of seeing a problem.
My lessons are appropriate for students from elementary school through high school, as well as college students seeking support in mathematics through Calculus III. I can help with foundational math, algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus, reading, English, study strategies, and STEM subjects. My goal is not only to help students perform better academically, but also to develop the confidence and problem-solving habits that allow them to become more independent learners.
