About Jaela

Hi! I’m Simone, a college student who loves learning and helping others discover that they’re capable of more than they think. For over four years, I’ve worked with students of different ages through peer tutoring, teaching, and educational programs. I’ve also created and led my own Mandarin instruction initiative, giving me experience designing lessons, adapting to different learners, and making education engaging.

Working with kids has taught me that every student learns differently. I strive to be patient, encouraging, and approachable while creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building their confidence. I care just as much about helping students become independent learners as I do about helping them succeed in a particular class.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing lacrosse, running, traveling, trying new foods, baking, painting, and spending time with my dog. I’m excited to get to know each student and help make learning something they can feel confident about!

About the lesson

I have over four years of experience tutoring students through peer instruction and leading an innovative Mandarin teaching initiative. My strongest areas are math and science, with coursework and teaching experience spanning mathematics through Calculus BC, Biology, Chemistry, and Computer Science, as well as AP-level humanities and language courses.

My goal is to make challenging material feel approachable. I break complex concepts into manageable steps, use examples and practice problems to reinforce understanding, and adapt each lesson to the student’s learning style and goals. A typical lesson begins by identifying what the student understands and where they are struggling, followed by targeted instruction, guided practice, and independent problems to build confidence.

I work with students from middle school through college-level courses, whether they are building foundational skills, preparing for an advanced class or exam, or simply looking to feel more confident in a subject. What sets me apart is my focus on helping students move beyond just memorization to a place where they can understand the “why” behind what they are learning.
