About Katarina
Hello! I’m a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering with a deep love for learning and teaching across multidisciplinary fields. My academic journey has given me expertise not only in advanced STEM topics, but also in coding and data analytics, which have been invaluable to my research and tutoring. Pursuing a minor in bioinformatics and earning certificates in data analytics has helped me work more efficiently, and I enjoy sharing these skills with others. In fact, I’ve even taught data analytics to members of my lab to help streamline our research.
Having come from a disadvantaged background, I know firsthand the challenges students can face in university, especially when traditional methods of learning don’t quite click. My own experiences drove me to create a supportive, adaptable approach to teaching, where I focus on making complex concepts understandable and empowering students to recognize their own potential. I believe no student is “bad” at a subject—sometimes they just need the right approach to unlock their understanding.
I’m here to help you succeed in STEM, and whether it’s tackling calculus, exploring the principles of biology, or working on data-driven projects, I’m committed to making learning enjoyable, accessible, and relevant to your goals.

Teaching Method and Techniques:
My teaching approach emphasizes conceptual understanding over rote memorization, using real-world applications to make abstract concepts more relatable. I tailor each lesson to the student’s unique learning style and break down complex ideas into manageable steps. I often employ visual aids like diagrams or graphs, and real-life examples to help students grasp intricate concepts in subjects like calculus, biomechanics, and microbiology. I encourage active participation, asking questions to prompt critical thinking and using relatable examples to make the content engaging and accessible.
Typical Lesson Plan:
A typical lesson begins with reviewing previous material to reinforce retention and ensure continuity. I introduce new topics through clear, structured explanations, often starting with fundamental principles before building up to more advanced applications. I emphasize structure and organization, guiding students on outlining, drafting, and revising. For math and science topics, I focus on procedural fluency and encourage analytical thinking through step-by-step guidance in problem-solving.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
What makes my tutoring unique is my broad and adaptable knowledge base, enabling me to connect concepts across disciplines. I approach each lesson with patience and empathy, understanding that students may feel overwhelmed with challenging material. I let students know where I have struggled in the past and encourage them to find alternative routes to solving problems.
Additionally, I focus on building critical thinking skills, emphasizing the "why" behind each solution to ensure deep comprehension. Whether it’s making calculus concepts intuitive or explaining nanotechnology’s role in everyday products, I make learning exciting and meaningful.
My lessons are suitable for:
Elementary to High School Students: Building foundational skills in math, reading, and introductory science.
College Students: For advanced subjects like calculus, biomechanics, and nanotechnology, especially those studying engineering, biology, or related fields.
Ultimately, my goal is to empower students at every level to achieve their full potential and develop a lasting confidence in their abilities across STEM and beyond.
