About Peter

I am 23 years old, born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. I grew up an only child, inundated with the wonderful wild of Alaska. At a young age, I began training as a Nordic skier, clocking many hundreds of hours per year. At the same time, I was learning all my young brain could sponge up: accelerated math and science, immersion German, and trips to Slovakia where my mother has family.

By 19, I had landed a student-athlete scholarship at the University of Alaska in my hometown, Anchorage, and my career as an NCAA D1 skier began. Fast forward 4 years, I have graduated from UAA with honors in Civil Engineering and am now pursuing my Olympic dream by racing on the World Cup. As I sit here writing this in Seefeld, Austria, I feel the dull ache in my legs from a hard day of sprint racing, 22nd place!

I decided to start this account as a way to keep myself intellectually stimulated and hopefully help some people learn beautiful things!

About the lesson

Engineering concepts are often abstract and difficult to visualize, so I teach by worked-out examples - I believe it's the best way to learn. Start by understanding the problem, finding knowns and unknowns, identifying governing equations & underlying theory, and finding appropriate solution techniques. Then, solving the problem step-by-step, answering any questions as they arise.

Immediate feedback for questions is the best way to support fragile understanding. I check in regularly, asking clarifying questions of the student. I also have supporting texts from my undergraduate studies that we can reference and draw answers and examples from.
