1. My Teaching Methodology and Techniques
My approach is centered around understanding what the student actually knows before moving forward. I don’t believe in simply giving students answers or having them memorize steps without understanding why they work.
I break difficult concepts into smaller, manageable pieces and work through problems with the student step-by-step. I use examples, practice questions, and explanations in different ways depending on what helps the student understand the material best.
I also encourage students to ask questions freely. If a student doesn’t understand something, I would rather slow down and find a different way to explain it than simply move on.
2. A Typical Lesson
Each lesson depends on what the student needs, but a typical session may include:
• Reviewing homework or recent schoolwork
• Identifying gaps or concepts the student is struggling with
• Explaining the material and working through examples together
• Having the student solve problems independently while I provide guidance
• Reviewing mistakes and explaining how to approach similar problems
• Preparing for upcoming tests, assignments, or lessons
• Introducing upcoming material when the student is ready to get ahead
I can also structure lessons around the Ontario curriculum so students can stay on pace with their class or work ahead when appropriate.
3. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
I have 4 years of tutoring experience and have helped students improve from grades in the 60s into the 80s, including 85+.
I’m also a former Waterloo Engineering student and currently study Cybersecurity at Ontario Tech University, so I have a strong STEM background. More importantly, I’ve had to develop my own ways of learning and studying when traditional approaches don’t work.
I understand that sometimes a student isn’t struggling because they aren’t capable—they may simply have gaps in their fundamentals, difficulty staying focused, or never developed an effective way to study.
My goal is to address the underlying problem rather than just help a student get through one assignment or test.
4. Who My Lessons Are For
I primarily teach students in Grades 5–10, particularly in Math and Science.
I believe these years are especially important because students can sometimes get through their classes while still having gaps in their fundamentals. Those gaps can become much harder to deal with as the material gets more advanced.
I work with students who need help catching up, understanding their current schoolwork, preparing for tests, completing homework, or getting ahead of their class.
The goal is not just a better mark on the next test—it’s for the student to eventually be able to approach the material confidently and solve problems on their own.

Details
My standard rate is $35/hour for online tutoring sessions.
I keep my rates modest compared with many tutoring services while still providing personalized, one-on-one instruction.
Tutoring is done on a weekly basis, with the frequency depending on the student’s needs and goals. This could mean one session per week for ongoing support, or multiple sessions per week for students who need more intensive help or are preparing for an upcoming test.
Rates are flexible depending on the student’s circumstances and the number of weekly sessions.
Before starting, we can discuss your student’s needs, goals, and schedule to determine what works best.
