About Ana Teresa

Spanish Language Tutor with a Bachelor Degree in Modern Languages, Portuguese and Spanish from the University of Lisbon, Portugal with one year studying at the Universitat Autonóma de Barcelona, Spain, as Erasmus student.

I have obtained the DELE Spanish Diploma Level C1, the official qualifications certifying the degree of competence and mastery of Spanish. Followed by Level 1 and 2 teacher training for teachers of Spanish as foreign language provided by Instituto Cervantes, London) and Level 3 in Specialist Support for Learning in Schools by NCFE.

I have a passion for learning and studying languages, as well as teaching. I completely understand what it is like to learn a language from zero, develop the strengths that are challenging to achieve on all four skills (Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking). As a speaker and student of two languages (English and Spanish) from an early age I knowhow daunting can be learning a new language as it faces is with many challenges. Its process goes beyond putting words together and memorise grammar rules. For I would like to share my experience and enthusiasm for it as I do believe that it opens new horizons to understand the other's culture, meet new people, live new experiences and, also, get a job which requires foreign languages.

On my first lesson I will be an active listener to understand the student's aims and need and, also, assess the level of mastery in the language so that I can tailor my lessons. So whether you are a pure beginner or you are looking for improving your already existing skills, I am here to help you with it and boost your confidence to express yourself in another language. Believe! It is not an impossible mission!

My teaching approach is will be communicative through the use of real life use of language. You will be the centre of the lessons which you will make your way through the language learning process. I will be there to guide you and support you. For I will aim to make my lessons practical, engaging and as fun as possible through a variety of authentic teaching and learning materials (i.e.: short stories, books, podcasts, songs, articles). You can ask as many questions as you want when you do not know and/or understand. Do not fear making mistakes because you will learn from them. If you want to go back on any topic we have covered, feel free to ask and we will do it. I will follow your rhythm. So do not worry if we do not cover many aspects planned for the session.

The language learning requires constant evaluation. I am happy to set and mark small homework. Why is that? It does requires careful and persistent personal effort until you will start noticing the rewarding results of the process itself. I will ensure that we will go through what we have covered previously because this will allow me to track your progress and it help you to recall what what you have learnt so far.

I teach children and young people aged 11-18 and university students aged 18 - 24. For the latter we could arrange meeting point, i.e.: café, library, for the sessions conveniently. I am quite flexible with the times. If you find the day that I am available for tutoring is not compactible with yours, we can sort it out another day and time it sutis you!
